Terms of Service

Last updated: 24 June 2026

1. About Unsourced

Unsourced ("we", "us", "our") is an AI search visibility platform based in England and Wales. The service allows website owners to monitor AI crawler activity, track whether their content is cited by AI systems (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and others), analyse competitor AI visibility, and generate structured reports.

By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and that you accept these Terms of Service in full.

2. Acceptable use

You may only add sites and domains that you own or have explicit authority to monitor. You must not:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or replicate any part of the Unsourced service or its proprietary detection mechanisms (including Origin Signals)
  • Use the service to monitor, scrape, or gather intelligence on third parties without their consent
  • Upload access logs or data from sites you do not own or control
  • Share your account credentials or API keys with third parties
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, abuse the API, or disrupt the service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms without notice or refund.

3. Billing and payments

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance via Stripe. Current plan pricing:

  • Indie plan: £39/month
  • Studio plan: £89/month
  • Agency plan: £199/month (plus £16/month per additional site beyond the included allowance)

All payments are processed by Stripe Payments Europe Limited. We do not store or handle your payment card details — these are held exclusively by Stripe under their own terms and PCI-DSS compliance obligations.

You may cancel your subscription at any time via the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial months or unused subscription time.

If a payment fails, we will notify you by email and your account will be downgraded after a grace period. You can update your payment method via the billing portal at any time.

4. Free trial

New accounts receive a 10-day free trial with full access to the service. No payment card is required to start a trial. At the end of the trial period, the account reverts to read-only access unless a paid plan is activated.

We may, at our discretion, extend trial periods for individual accounts.

5. Data retention

The following automatic data retention periods apply:

  • Trial accounts: scan data, crawl events, and citation records are automatically deleted 30 days after collection
  • Indie and Studio accounts: data is retained for 6 months (180 days) from the date of collection
  • Account data (email address, company name): deleted within 30 days of account closure
  • After account deletion, all associated data is purged within 30 days

You may request early deletion of your data at any time — see clause 7 (Data and Privacy).

6. Customer responsibilities — monitoring tools and data processing

If you install any Unsourced monitoring tool on your website — including the JavaScript beacon, WordPress plugin, Cloudflare Worker, or server-side reporter snippet — you become the data controller for any personal data (including visitor IP addresses) collected through those tools on your site. You are solely responsible for:

  • Disclosing the use of Unsourced monitoring tools in your own Privacy Policy
  • Obtaining any necessary consent from your site visitors in accordance with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, or other applicable law
  • Ensuring your use of these tools complies with your own legal obligations

Unsourced acts as your data processor in respect of data submitted to us via these tools. We process this data only to provide the services described in these terms.

Optional edge blocking

The Cloudflare Worker includes an optional, off-by-default "block proven impostors" setting that you may enable. When enabled, the Worker — running on your own infrastructure, under your control — returns an HTTP 403 to requests that claim a major AI crawler whose source IP falls outside that operator's published range. This is your configuration choice. The feature is designed to be conservative (it never blocks crawlers whose identity it cannot disprove, and it fails open if our published-range data is unavailable), but published IP ranges can change and identity signals are not infallible. You acknowledge that enabling this setting may, in rare cases, block legitimate traffic, and that you are solely responsible for your decision to enable it and for any resulting impact on your site. Unsourced provides the identity data on an "as is" basis and gives no warranty that blocking will be complete, accurate, or free from false positives. You can disable the setting at any time.

7. Evidence Reports and data accuracy

Unsourced generates "Evidence Reports" and "AI Visibility Audit" reports based on data collected by the service. These reports are provided as structured information for your review, reference, licensing discussions, complaint submissions, or legal escalation.

IMPORTANT — the following disclaimers apply to all reports generated by Unsourced:

  • Reports do not constitute legal advice. You should consult a qualified solicitor before taking any legal action.
  • Reports do not prove copyright infringement. They document observed AI crawler activity and citation patterns, which may or may not be relevant to any legal claim.
  • Citation data reflects AI system responses at the time of checking. AI systems update continuously — past results do not guarantee future performance.
  • Bot detection is based on User-Agent matching and signal analysis. Sophisticated actors may evade detection. Unsourced does not warrant that its detection is complete or exhaustive.
  • We do not guarantee that any report will be accepted by any court, regulator, or third party for any purpose.

You accept sole responsibility for how you use, interpret, or rely upon any data or reports generated by the service.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

  • The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied
  • We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular result will be achieved
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to: loss of revenue, loss of profits, loss of business, loss of data, or any losses arising from reliance on reports or data generated by the service
  • Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of the service shall not exceed the total subscription fees you paid to us in the 12 months immediately preceding the claim
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law

9. Intellectual property and Origin Signals

All intellectual property in the Unsourced platform — including but not limited to the citation monitoring system, bot detection algorithms, prompt generation methodology, and the proprietary "Origin Signal" mechanism — remains the exclusive property of Unsourced.

The Origin Signal works by correlating verified AI-crawler activity on your pages with AI responses that reproduce your content. You may not attempt to copy, replicate, or reverse-engineer the Origin Signal mechanism.

10. Partner Programme

The Unsourced Partner Programme allows approved agencies and consultants to earn a 20% recurring commission on subscription payments made by clients they refer. Partners are independent contractors — not employees, agents, or representatives of Unsourced.

By applying to the programme you confirm that you have the authority to enter into this arrangement and that all referrals are genuine. Commissions are calculated on net invoice amounts received by Unsourced and transferred automatically via Stripe Connect to your registered Stripe account. Unsourced does not store banking details — all payment processing for partners is handled exclusively by Stripe.

Unsourced reserves the right to withhold, adjust, or reverse commissions where referrals are found to be fraudulent, self-referrals, or in breach of these terms. Partner status may be revoked at any time. Unsourced accepts no liability for a partner's earnings, the performance of referred clients, or any third-party arrangements a partner enters into when reselling or representing Unsourced services.

11. Termination

Either party may terminate the agreement at any time. You may close your account via Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these terms, non-payment, or misuse of the service.

On termination, your access to the service ends immediately. Data will be deleted per clause 5 (Data retention).

12. Changes to terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you by email at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

The current version of these terms is always available at unsourced.app/terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
